We especially enjoyed visiting The Plaka. You will be treated with respect, and most of the merchants really appreciate your business.
The Plaka is the oldest section of Athens. Most of the streets have been closed to automobile traffic, and it is now an area of restaurants, jewelry stores, tourist shops, and cafes.
As for the tourist shops they are crammed full of stuff, some of it junk but plenty of interesting items.
There are a few galleries and there are several museums in the Plaka, of special note, the Children's Museum, the Music Museum, the Greek Folk Art Museum and the Jewish Museum which is right at the entrance to the Plaka at Nikis and Kydatheneon streets.
